MY CATS

Yohan, Desmond & Packard

Yohan

I met Yohan when he was 6 days old, and he was struggling for life in an incubator. I was volunteering in Los Angeles’ first kitten nursery at the time, and Yohan helped me fall in love with Best Friends. I started volunteering more and more just so I could see him and feed him, and I realized how happy I was there. I finally took him home to foster-to-adopt, and also applied for a job at Best Friends!

Yohan has some challenges but he’s a fun, friendly boy, and he adores his mama. He’s very mouthy, likely due to being weaned so early, and likes to chew on everything, including people. I’ve helped mitigate his issues by providing him with appropriate items to chew on like cardboard and cat grass, and I make sure to do one wand toy “hunting” session per day with him to relieve his anxiety. He loves clicker training and is a huge flirt with everyone that visits!

Desmond

When I took Yohan home to foster, I decided to bring another kitten home so that they could learn their kitten manners together and get proper kitten socialization. I chose another little orange boy, Desmond, but was not planning on adopting him. But as soon as I got him home I knew he was never going back.

Desmond is the most “normal” of my cats. He needs some time to warm up to strangers, new cats, and new experiences. He prefers a quiet life at home with the people he knows and loves. I have guests ask him to do his trained behaviors for them and give him a treat so that he feels confident and comfortable around them. And once you’re in Desmond’s circle of trust, you’re in for more kitty love than you ever thought possible!

Packard

Baby Packard arrived at my rescue with severe neurological problems. He spent weeks on an IV with a 107-degree fever which caused him to go deaf. His tiny body was fighting a severe bacterial infection that was eating away his skull.

The only way to ensure he’d get the extra care and vet visits he'd require for the rest of his likely very short life was to adopt him myself. He had 4 skull surgeries in the first 4 months with me and was such a little trooper! Six years later, he still has a head tilt, still 100% deaf, still has some issues. But he’s the happiest, most loving creature you’ll ever meet. I don’t know how much time I'll have with Packard, but I treasure every second.

Packard uses his powers for good and nurtures all of the shelter cats and kittens I bring home to foster. He helps build their confidence and grooms and cares for motherless kittens. He teaches them to be friendly, social cats, which helps them find homes faster. He's saving cats' lives!

Packard brightens everyone’s spirits on Instagram and out in public. He even visited the LA Marathon and cheered on the runners. He brings love and comfort to every person and cat he meets. He’s a ray of sunshine, brightening everyone’s day wherever he goes.
